Weighted Backpack Walking Study for Healthy Women
Protocol: STUDY00007421
Full Title
Musculoskeletal injury risk after load carriage in stressful environments
Description
The University at Buffalo (UB) Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is looking for healthy adults for a weighted backpack walking study. The goal of the study is to learn more about the impact of walking with a weighted backpack on the body. The results of the study may help to improve the safety of military personnel that carry heavy amounts of weight while walking.

Participation in this study will involve four study visits to the UB South Campus (on Main Street and Bailey Avenue) totaling about 11.5 hours. Visit 1 will include screenings and physical fitness tests. The next three visits will include walking on a treadmill with a weighted backpack. Your gait, balance, strength, and power will all be tested to see if there are any changes in risk for injury. Participants can earn up to $172.50 for completing all study visits.
