Emotional Attention
Protocol: STUDY00009327
Full Title
Auditory Emotional Attention in Young Adults
Description
Anxiety and depression are conditions that affect people from all walks of life. These conditions can impact a person's mood, physical health, sleep, and relationships. In the past, research has focused on learning more about the causes of these conditions. This has allowed doctors and scientists to develop new treatments to help with symptoms common to these conditions.

However, the impact of these conditions on hearing ability is still not well understood. A research team from the University at Buffalo is investigating how "auditory attention"; can be affected in those experiencing anxiety or depression. Auditory attention refers to our ability to focus on one sentence while ignoring other sentences occurring at the same time. The researchers hope to learn more about how symptoms of anxiety and depression might affect auditory attention and therefore a person's overall hearing ability.

Eligible participants will attend a 2.5 hour in-person study visit on the UB South Campus (at Main Street and Bailey Avenue). During this study visit, participants will perform listening tasks and surveys about their background, listening abilities, and symptoms of anxiety/depression.

Participants can earn up to $50 for completing the study.
