Protocol: STUDY00002174
Full Title
Pre- and post-natal educational support groups
We are looking for pregnant and parenting mothers in treatment for substance abuse who may have experienced traumatic stress.  We are offering a 6-week parenting educational support group with other pregnant and parenting moms of children ages 0-5.  The purpose of this study is to find out how helpful this support group program is.  Topics of the support group include: getting the support you need as a parent in recovery

-understanding and supporting your child’s development

-responding to your child’s needs and behaviors with sensitivity

-learning grounding techniques

-how to manage trauma symptoms

You will be asked to be in the study for 6 or more weeks.  Each session will last for about 90 minutes.  You will complete two questionnaires about parenting skills and confidence, stress, and substance abuse cravings which will take about 5-10 minutes each.  You will also give feedback on how we can improve the support group for future moms. This study is conducted at the Madonna House and Lighthouse, two residential treatment facilities in Western New York.

This program is offered free of charge, and compensation is not available for this study.
