COVID-19 Positive Patients: Sample Donations Needed for Biobank
Establishment of a clinical specimen biorepository from adults acutely infected with COVID-19
This study enrolls adults who have had a positive test for COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to learn more about how the infection works, including how the virus evolves and how a person infected with COVID-19's body responds. Knowing more about the virus at a cellular level will help scientists develop better treatments for this devastating disease.
This study asks people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to give one or more biological samples to be stored in UB's biobank. The types of samples we will collect include blood plasma, saliva, urine, and oral swabs. We will also collect suctioned cells from intubated patients. The samples will be used by investigators who are studying how the virus works.
The main objective of this study is to establish a biobank of human samples (plasma, PBC, saliva, urine, oral swabs and endotracheal aspirates (in intubated patients only)) from donors who are acutely ill with COVID-19 infection. Samples will be processed, aliquoted and stored for further research in the UB biorepository. This is not a hypothesis-driven project, but will support several future hypotheses driven studies.
-Positive for COVID-19
-We will restrict asymptomatic enrollees to a maximum of 20% (100) participants. Once that number is achieved, symptoms of COVID-19 will be required for inclusion in to the study.
Due to COVID-19, new enrollment in research studies will be greatly limited.
If you are interested in a study, there may be a longer waiting period to receive a response to your inquiry.
