Outdoor Exercise and Air Pollution Study
Protocol: STUDY00007545
Full Title
Air Pollution and Physical Activity: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Description
Are you between the ages of 35 to 55 years old? Do you live in the Buffalo area? If so, you might be eligible to participate in a University at Buffalo (UB) study focused on learning more about outdoor exercise and air pollution! Participants will be enrolled in the study for about 3 months. They will be given an Apple watch to wear throughout the study that they can keep. All participants will complete 8 weeks of exercise with a trained health coach in Delaware Park. At the beginning of the study, they will be randomly assigned (which happens by chance, like flipping a coin) to one of two groups: (1) Group 1 will exercise in an area close to the road in the park and (2) Group 2 will exercise in an area slightly far from the road. Weekly exercise sessions will last 45 – 60 minutes and will involve either jogging or running depending on fitness level. Your blood pressure will be measured throughout the study, and you will provide a blood and urine sample at the beginning and end of the study.
