A Biorepository and Database for Identifying Biomarkers for Oral Cancer
This study enrolls adults who are at high risk for oral cancer. The purpose of this research project is to learn about biomarkers that might signal an increased risk of oral cancer. Your involvement in this study may help people who have cancer and other diseases in the future.
We expect that you will be in this research study for at least 5 years. In this study we will evaluate your mouth using light and tools to help us see any abnormalities. Since we are asking for the right to save your mouth samples in a bank for future research, there is no time limit on use of your tissue samples. Your participation on this study will include your first visit and any related follow-up visits that involve oral screening and sample collection. You will be asked to fill out some questionnaires as well. Study takes place at ECMC (Erie County Medical Center, 462 Grider Street, Buffalo, NY 14215).
Establishing a bio-repository and database for oral cancer.
Adults ages 18+.
People who come to the ECMC clinic for a biopsy due to suspicious lesions and/or risk factors for oral cancer.
People with a history of head and neck cancer who have already been treated but remain on close surveillance.
People with risk factors for head and neck cancer may also be eligible for the study. Those with an increased risk of head and neck cancer include people who smoke cigarettes or who use any tobacco products and drink alcohol.
