Currently living in Erie County or Niagara County; don’t plan to move out of these two counties during this pregnancy.
We are looking for women ages 30-75 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer (and are undergoing surgery) for a research study. The purpose of this study is to learn more about why women develop breast cancer. We are studying the microbiome- the bacteria and other single cell organisms that are found normally in every part of the body. The microbiome can affect many diseases, and we want to see if it affects breast cancer. You will complete a questionnaire, provide a saliva sample, and provide a fecal sample using a home kit. This is a research study for patients diagnosed with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) and low Von Willebrand Factor (VWF). The purpose of this project is to study the genetic differences of adolescent females with HMB and low VWF activity and compare the genetic differences with their bleeding manifestations and response to medications and treatment. 1. Post-menarchal females < 21 years of age with HMB (defined as PBAC score >100)
2. VWF: Activity >/= 30 and = 50 IU/dL x 2
3. VWF: Activity/VWF:Ag ratio >/= 0.6
