The University at Buffalo's Neurology Department is working on a study funded by the National Institute of Health. This study is for adults who have had a stroke because their brain's blood vessels were severely narrowed. It's a special type of study where neither the participants nor the researchers know who gets which treatment, which is decided randomly, like tossing a coin. The University at Buffalo (UB) Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences is looking for people with tinnitus (ringing in their ears) or hyperacusis (cannot tolerate loud noises) for an in-person study. The goal of the study is to develop a more reliable method for diagnosing hyperacusis. Read More

Have been diagnosed with hyperacusis (cannot tolerate loud noises)
Able to attend an in-person study visit to the UB South Campus
Participants with or without multiple sclerosis are needed for this research study on audio-visual cognition. Participants will be asked to complete some short questionnaires and cognitive tasks over the span of approximately 2-3 hours. This study enrolls adults who have had a brain hemorrhage within the last 7 days. The purpose of the study is to learn whether it is better to keep taking or stop taking the medication statin after having a brain bleed. Read More

Adults ages 50+.
Have had bleeding in the brain (brain hemorrhage) within the last 7 days.
Were taking a statin drug.
People who may be eligible for this study will be contacted by study staff directly. Eligible participants will be inpatients of Buffalo General/Gates Vascular Institute.
