Medication Safety and Empowerment Study for Older Adults
Protocol: STUDY00009640
Full Title
Pilot Application of Medication Safety and Empowerment Curriculum to Primacy Care Group Visits.
Description
As we age, it is common to develop chronic conditions. These may require a doctor to prescribe medicine to help alleviate symptoms. However, taking multiple medicines that may interact with each other can harm the body. To further complicate things, over-the-counter medicines can also interact with prescriptions and lead to dangerous effects. Oftentimes older adults may not be aware of these potentially unsafe situations.

A research team from the University at Buffalo developed workshops focused on medicine safety and empowerment for older adults. The workshops discuss the risks of using some medicines. They also guide older adults on advocating for their health.

This study will last for a few months. Participants will attend 2 workshops that will each last 1.5 hours. They will also complete a follow-up 15 minute phone call after their annual well visit.
