Assessment of the Carillon Mitral Contour System in Treating Heart Failure with Functional Mitral Regurgitation The EMPOWER Trial
Description
People living with functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) have a valve in their heart that fails to close properly. This causes blood to flow backwards within the heart. As a result, the heart must contract more to move blood forward. This makes the heart work harder than a healthy heart to pump the same amount of blood.

The EMPOWER trial is testing a new device to treat FMR. The device is implanted into the heart by threading a catheter into the jugular vein in the neck. Participants will complete follow-up visits 1, 6. 12. 18, and 24 months after the procedure. They will have pictures of their heart taken and complete walking tests. They will then have one visit per year for the next 3 years.

Eligibility
Adults 18 years or older
Have been diagnosed with moderate to severe heart failure
Have been diagnosed with moderate to severe functional mitral regurgitation
Are able to perform a walking test
Are taking heart failure medication for at least 3 months
Age Group: Adults
