1. Getting Started
PREPARATION
- Start working on your application early! Your completed application ready for submission should be ready for submission at least 5 business days before the sponsor's deadline. Why 5 days in advance?
- Utilize training resources well before the deadline. General Grants.gov and agency specific training packages can be found here.
- Download and install the necessary software before you actually need it. Go to Step 2, Setup Your Computer for instructions.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT GRANTS.GOV?
- Contact your Proposal/Award Establishment Specialist (PAES)or Administrator: as soon as you know you will be submitting through Grants.gov. Your PAES or Administrator is aware of current technical issues with Grants.gov, and can advise you.
- ONLY your PAES or Administrator can submit the final application to Grants.gov. Neither PI's departmental administrators nor project staff can submit the application. Upload the completed application to the SPS Grants.gov server using the link at the bottom of the SPS homepage Transmit your PureEdge file for Grants.gov submission.
- PI's departmental administrator/staff: do not create an account with Grants.gov. The only account holders are designated PAES or Administrator in SPS who submit applications via Grants.gov. While the Grants.gov helpdesk may tell you that you need an account, be assured, you do not need one - the Institution is the only account holder.
- Central Contractor Registry (CCR): The Research Foundation of SUNY has been registered in the Central Contractor Registry (CCR). Do not re-register the university.
- Time Line: When submitting via Grants.gov, you are required to submit your completed application to your Institutional Representative by 9:00 am, at least 5 business days before the agency’s submission deadline! Add department/school review requirements to the 5 business days needed for institutional review.
- For NIH submission only: The PI must first be registered in the NIH eRA-Commons at least two week in advance. Contact your PAES or Administrator to get registered in the NIH eRA-Commons. If you are already registered, make sure the profile is updated so it is an exact match to what is on the application. (title, degrees, name, etc.)
