Types of Projects the HSIRB Reviews:
The HSIRB reviews biomedical projects, which primarily involve adults, based on the nature of the research to be conducted and not on the investigator’s affiliation with a particular school or facility – for example, a psychological project employing drugs will be reviewed by the HSIRB.
Projects primarily involving adults that involve any of the following should be submitted to the Health Sciences IRB:
- drugs or
- devices or
- invasive medical interventions or
- retrospective or prospective chart review
