UB Children & Youth Institutional Review Board (CYIRB)

Purpose:

The Children & Youth Institutional Review Board (CYIRB) reviews research proposals received from UB investigators involving the health and well being of children. The CYIRB principally strives to ensure that the dignity and rights of the research subjects will be protected while also assuring that federal regulations will be fulfilled. Research may not commence without CYIRB approval.

Please review the information contained on this website before submitting projects to the CYIRB for review.

Types of Research Projects the CYIRB Reviews:

The CYIRB reviews biomedical projects, which primarily involve children, based on the nature of the research to be conducted and not on the investigator’s affiliation with a particular school or facility, for example, a psychological project employing drugs that will primarily enroll children will be reviewed by the CYIRB.

Projects primarily involving children that involve any of the following should be submitted to the Children & Youth IRB:

• drugs or
• devices or
• invasive medical interventions or
• retrospective or prospective chart review
