Protocol Examples
The following examples of complete protocols including appendices are provided for investigators to browse and use for ideas in constructing their own protocols. Keep in mind that while most of these examples have been adapted from actual protocols approved by the SBSIRB, a research project by definition is unique and the SBSIRB evaluates every protocol on its own merits. Procedures that are acceptable in one case are sometimes not acceptable in another because of differences in the risks and benefits presented in a specific project or because there is new federal or local guidance on an issue.
All materials are posted with the permission of the investigator but at the discretion of the SBSIRB. In order to keep the scope of this site manageable, it is updated periodically by adding and removing items so investigators are encouraged to locally save any items that they deem useful. The SBSIRB cannot provide materials that are no longer on this site to investigators.
If you are willing to have your protocol posted here as an example for others to use/copy in designing their own studies, please send an e-mail to SBSIRB@research.buffalo.edu stating your protocol number and that you give the SBSIRB permission to post your protocol to the examples section of the website.
