Research Advisory Council

The Research Advisory Council (RAC) serves as an advisory body to the Vice President for Research (VPR) and provides insight and counsel on research and scholarly activity at the University. UB is presently in the midst of a significant transformation vis-à-vis the UB2020 initiative. The Council’s careful consideration of how to carry out strategic policy changes within the present paradigmatic transformation shift is essential.

More specifically, the Council will:

  • Advise the VPR on areas of research, scholarly and creative work that should be the target of University investment in time, resources and personnel;
  • Assist the VPR (and through him/her the Provost and Deans) in identifying outstanding scholars for potential recruitment by UB and, when appropriate, assist in such efforts;
  • Alert the VPR of significant equipment and facilities needed to support research, scholarly and creative efforts at the University;
  • Advise on ways and means to support faculty research either through direct support programs, policy changes or other means; and
  • Foster a culture of excellence in scholarship and creative works throughout the University.

The Council will consist of about a dozen members selected by the Vice President for their record of outstanding scholarship in their respective fields. Each member shall serve for a period of two (2) years with potential reappointment for one additional term.
