Welcome to the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (UB). Through this portal you will find information on current research initiatives, seed funding opportunities, research programs and units, scholarly activity in the schools and colleges, research policies and procedures, opportunities for collaboration and procedures for licensing innovations produced by curiosity driven research. The OVPR and its constituent units have overall responsibility for the University?s research enterprise. It seeks to stimulate an atmosphere that fosters and rewards creativity, collaboration and community. It provides support for campus-wide research efforts; advocates on behalf of research needs and resources; and maximizes the benefits of UB?s research to the scholarly community, and to the quality of life in Western New York, the state, and the nation.

In support of these goals, the Office of the Vice President for Research:

  • Sponsors the UB 2020 Scholars Program, the UB 2020 Interdisciplinary Research Development Fund (IRDF), Multi-investigator Proposal Support (MIPS) and other programs designed to foster and sustain the research enterprise
  • Administers research funding through the Research Foundation of State University of New York (RF) and the University at Buffalo Foundation (UBF)
  • Oversees compliance with federal, state and university regulations governing research and creative activity
  • Facilitates relations between researchers and affiliated institutions and private industry.
  • Supervises several research centers and instrumentation facilities
