Five day Proposal Review Policy |
Posted on 09/28/2009 As we start a new academic year, I write to remind you of the UB Proposal Submission Policy governing submission of proposals, and to request that you and your staff re-acquaint yourselves to this Policy so that we can work together to promote best business practices to the benefit of all, and to ensure that all proposals are submitted properly and on time. |

Proposal Submission Policy and Implementation Plan |
Posted on 12/01/2008 In the e-mail dated October 20, 2008 sent by Executive Vice President James Willis and me, we provided a list of new policies approved by President Simpson, and which had been formally entered into the UB Policy Library (see: http://policy.business.buffalo.edu/Pages/default.aspx). I am writing you to further explain how the Proposal Submission Policy ("Policy") which outlines the 5-day deadline requirement for proposal submission to Sponsored Programs Services (SPS) will be implemented. This implementation strategy is designed to be as cooperative as possible with principal investigators while also considering SPS workflow constraints, especially during peak agency deadline periods when submissions can fail due to agency electronic submission systems inability to handle peak volumes. |

NIH has just announced a significant change to the policy on amended applications |
Posted on 11/14/2008 Beginning with applications submitted for the January 25,2009 due date, all new applications (i.e., never submitted before) and competing renewal applications will only be permitted a single amendment (i.e., one "AI"). Applicants who fail to receive funding after two submissions may resubmit, but only if the application is fundamentally revised to qualify as new. This new application is expected to be substantially different in content and scope than was normally encountered in previous amended applications. Note that there is no specific time limit for the submission of the original application and its subsequent AI. |

Occupational Health Monitoring Program requirements |
Posted on 11/06/2008 The University at Buffalo (UB) is a leading research university that receives external funding support from several federal and state agencies that have very specific compliance rules that apply to all UB researchers. The purpose of this communication is to inform the research community of federal and state agency requirements that an Occupational Health Monitoring Program (OHMP) be in place to promote occupational health and safety by recognizing and considering hazards and health risks to investigators associated with the care and use of research animals. Participation in the OHMP is required by regulatory agencies such as OSHA, NRC, ILAR, CDC, CFR, NIH, and PHS. |
