Equipment Rentals
Surgical and Research equipment are available on loan from the CM-LAF. Equipment can be rented for 1/2 day, a day, a week, or a month. Click on fees for rental charges. Instruction on the use and maintenance of these items is strongly recommended and can be arranged with a veterinary technician. Please call 829-2919 and ask to speak to a veterinary technician to rent any of the following available equipment.
GAS ANESTHETIC MACHINES AND VENTILATORS:
- Delivers Isoflurane Anesthetic
- Supplied with portable oxygen tanks, (or must be connected to inhouse oxygen source)
- Supplied with F/AIR cannisters to process waste anesthetic gases (or must be connected to inhouse gas scavange system)
- Ventilator tidal volumes range from 50 to 1500 mls
- Instruction on use is highly recommended (call 829-2919 and ask for veterniary technician)

RODENT ANESTHETIC MACHINE AND SURGICAL TABLE:
- Portable all inclusive rodent surgical preparation and surgical table
- Includes: Isoflurane anesthetic machine, rodent mask, induction chamber, overhead light, surgical table and heat source ( hot water circulating blanket)

RODENT VENTILATOR:
- Tidal volumes range from: 0.05-100 mls
- Respiratory frequency from: 5-200 bpm
- Adjustable Imp/Exp ratio: 4/1 - 1/4
- Instantaneous start/stop for X-ray or NMR imaging
- Adjustable Peak end Expiratory Pressure
- Adjustable max pressure to prevent lung rupture

WATER CIRCULATING BLANKETS:
- Pumps heats and circulates warm water through rubber pad (blanket) which is placed under animal during surgery or anesthesia.
- Maintains body temperature without burning skin

OPERATING SUITES:
- 2 dedicated operating rooms for regulated species (BEB 313,311) are available (e.g. hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, dogs, primates, sheep etc)
- 1 operating room dedicated for rodents (BEB 317) (rats and mice only) with 4 stations (overhead light and table)
- Equipped with stainless steel surgical tables and overhead lights
- Adjoining areas for animal prep, surgeons prep and recovery
- Sign up sheets are posted on doors for use on a first come first serve basis

X-RAY MACHINE:
- Radiation suite (BEB-310) is equipped with X-ray machine, dental X-ray machine, developing machine and protective apparel (lead lined gowns, gloves, etc)
- Veterinary technical assistance is available to prepare, take and develop X-rays. Click on fees for costs
- Researchers participating in X-ray must register with OES, obtain training, and have own monitoring devices (badge and ring)

LUNAR PIXIMUS MACHINE (DENSITOMETER):
- Fully integrated densitometer designed to estimate bone mineral density (g/cm²) and body composition
- Attached to PC laptop computer and HP desktop Printer
- Primarily used for mice
- Located in Radiation Suite of CM-LAF
- Must be approved by EH&S to work with radiation and obtain training, or have veterinary technical assistance
- Call CM-LAF (829-2919) to make arrangements

RAT AND MOUSE RESTRAINERS:
- Various sizes available for atraumatic restraint of mice or rats for tail vein injections

RABBIT RESTRAINERS:
- Bunny Snuggle (left) gently wraps around rabbit and body and is secured with velcro and sections of snuggle can be opened to explore parts of the rabbit as needed.
- Metal rabbit restrainer (right) can be used for ear blood collection or injections.
