Training

Training Requirement:

Training programs

  1. Biological and chemical hazards are assessed by IACUC and the UB Biosafety Committee. Principal Investigators must fill out a Hazardous Substances Information Sheet. This information is reviewed by CM-LAF staff and Occupational and Environmental Safety Services. If the review concludes that there is a hazard to staff, investigators and staff are given a training session by appropriate personnel. Any additional immunization or other precautions are addressed at this time. Standard Operating Procedures are generated with specific instructions on how to handle safely each hazardous agent. This process ensures that all employees who work with hazardous agents are instructed and trained on the proper use of the agents; are aware of the potential dangers; and are cognizant of the required safeguards.

  2. Several training sessions are given annually on OHS to inform personnel about zoonoses, personal hygiene and occupational health and safety. These include in-house sessions, the IACUC/CM-LAF Training Program, and formal lectures by UB personnel as part of the OHS seminar program.
