Grants Program Manager

The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) seeks applications for the new position of Grants Program Manager. There has been tremendous growth in research funding at UB over the past several years and this position is intended to further expand the research portfolio. This individual will work closely with faculty in proposal preparation of large multi-investigator, interdisciplinary projects providing services including scientific editing and proposal revision, application formatting, and professional document production/desktop publishing.

Responsibilities

The Grants Program Manager responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring, as scientific writer/editor, the integration of distinct projects to create cohesive proposals with a consistency of style and tone and a clarity in the presentation of ideas, goals, and strategies
  • Formatting proposals in a manner compliant with the funding agencies guidelines
  • Management of all phases of multi-investigator grant proposal development from idea conception to completed proposal
  • Providing guidance and training to faculty and/or professional staff in the preparation of grant proposals
  • Working with people who may not speak English as a first language showing cultural competence and sensitivity to all using the services

Required Education, Skills and Experience

A doctorate in a basic science discipline is required, preferably with experience conducting multi-disciplinary projects. The successful candidate will have three or more years experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting with evidence of a strong scientific writing background. Prior success in helping acquire extra-mural funding must be documented. The candidate must have demonstrated capacity to work independently. Having studied or traveled abroad is a plus. Specifically, applicants should have:

  • Demonstrated ability to be able to write successful scientific grants
  • Documented experience of being able to work effectively in collaborative grant and/or other project activities
  • Exceptional communication skills, both electronic and face-to-face
  • Knowledge of major federal, state and private grant programs and procedures
  • Ability to complete multiple projects simultaneously under pressure of hard deadlines
  • Mastery of software for document generation containing image/figures/graphs/tables and bibliographies
  • Ability to establish positive and collaborative working relationships across 3 UB campuses and with other institutions
