Letters of recognition.

Putting pen to paper is no small task for UB’s Center of Excellence for Document Analysis and Recognition. The center recently developed handwriting recognition software that tracks down the author of anthrax letters and other dangerous bioagents. In addition to developing handwriting recognition software systems for the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Census Bureau, researchers are also creating a system to detect suspicious patterns in emergency medical reports. The system is designed to make reports available to public health authorities within days, if not hours.
